Originally from West Wales, Bryde is a London-based girl and electric guitar who sings fierce and fragile songs compared to the likes of Jeff Buckley, Sharon Van Etten and Nirvana.
Bryde’s music deals with human psychology and the darker side of broken relationships, but with an infectiously defiant and life-affirming quality. Angular electric guitars, and swirling melancholic broken chords with a dream-like quality, underpin the striking lyrics.
"Genuine emotion and melancholic lyrics uplifted by the dance flecked-pop of 80s inspired production." Line of Best Fit
With aural nods to Cocteau Twins and Mirage-era Fleetwood Mac, Mere Child has been compared to Vaults and Robyn. Dark & fragile, yet soaring and cinematic music.
Aimee Herbert-Smith has been making music her whole life, but took time out when her personal life became traumatic. On beginning to make music again, she says: “I felt the need to start doing it in a different way. Going solo at seemed fitting with the content of the songs - more vulnerable and anxiety-driven.”
Single of the Week - Janice Forsyth, BBC Radio Scotland.
Me for Queen (aka Mary Erskine) is inspired by people and their stories. Growing up feral in rural Fife, in a big old house near the sea, she started writing songs at 13 (around the time she started dressing herself). Music was her method of making her mark (against four older siblings!) and getting out of doing the washing-up.
Having recently toured with 'Celticana' giants Lewis & Leigh, the live circuit is where Mary's brand of soul-folk is thriving, her previous two London shows selling out ahead of time.
